Earlier in 2017, Brandon Chatham from NatoMounts told me he was seeing 80% of his site traffic coming in from mobile. Then, he said he was converting more than 5% of them. With industry average conversion rates on desktop sitting at 2% –– that’s not just a good mobile conversion rate. It’s a mobile conversion rate nearly unheard of. My next question was easy –– it was falling out of my mouth as I was gawking: “How did you get mobile conversion so high?”.
There’s great news for retailers this week: Amazon no longer has a patent on the 1-Click Purchase. Amazon filed the patent way back in 1997 and it officially expires on September 11, 2017. Now, any ecommerce business can add the technology behind 1-Click checkout to their own site — without paying Amazon a cent for the privilege. With the technology up for grabs, every retailer should be celebrating and planning to use it immediately.
If you’re looking for new ways to prospect new business for your product or service, a lead magnet could be a valuable investment. A lead magnet is essentially a gateway drug or a bribe to coax your target audience into your marketing or sales funnel. You ‘bribe’ a prospect with a specific piece of value in exchange for their contact information that you can then use to nurture a relationship that hopefully leads to a sale.
If you’ve been selling physical products online for any length of time, chances are you’ve hit a few customer service snafus along the way. Even if you run a robust operation, processing large volumes of orders inevitably results in mistakes and situations that are beyond your control. For example, most online stores rely on 3rd party shippers to deliver their products to the end customer.

By Adam Blair, Executive Editor Even for a company that routinely generates big headlines, Amazon made quite a splash with its purchase of Whole Foods in June. The retailer got even more attention when it lowered prices on key items at the grocer-formerly-known-as-“Whole-Paycheck” in late August. But Amazon is after more than just a public relations spike, or even the 25% customer traffic increase that it generated, according to Bloomberg.
With 2 billion monthly site visitors , Amazon strictly regulates sellers to preserve the high quality of its marketplace. Most sellers have no problem following these policies since they’re eager to access Amazon’s 2 billion site visitors shopping for products each month. Having said that, Amazon’s rules are quite strict. Even the best of sellers have had their accounts suspended.

Retention, huh? It’s like interviewing for a job and getting to the last stage of the interviews — just to realize it’s not going to happen. We spend money on getting people to our website, visitors spend eight seconds on the page and 98% will never return. Boy, that hurts. It is especially painful for SaaS businesses because of their lengthy sales funnels and high acquisition costs.

I talk to at least 3-5 multi-million dollar brands every week. That’s a big part of my job over here at BigCommerce –– to figure out what they are doing to succeed, if there’s anything I can do to help and ultimately work with them to share tidbits of information hard to find elsewhere on the web. Why is good ecommerce advice so hard to find? Because most growth-centered advice on the internet comes from Silicon Valley mindsets.

After blogging about ecommerce and helping others with their online businesses for the past several years, I’ve noticed a disturbing trend among new entrepreneurs in the small business community. These days, everyone wants someone else to do the hard work for them. “Steve, I don’t know anything about websites. Can you recommend someone to design and implement my entire site for me?
By Michael Ting, Hyperwallet There are currently more than 25,000 commercial and not-for-profit resale shops in the United States, not to mention the number of consignment marketplaces active online. There’s no shortage of choice for consignors looking to sell their wares, meaning the competition is stiff among brick-and-mortar and digital retailers fighting to attract and retain their seller community.
With the launch of iPhone X and ARKit, augmented reality has taken a giant leap toward becoming a mainstream technology rather than just a feature of immersive gaming apps. Both Apple (ARKit) and Google (ARCore) are making AR central to their mobile experiences. When we talk about website optimization for conversion, the term we encounter almost immediately is “landing page.”. When referring to a marketing campaign, the usual questions are: “Are your landing pages optimized?”. “Do you have a specific landing page for that?”. It’s enough to make you think that landing pages are only reached through specific portals, like ads — a common misconception.

Would you let someone else write your emails, answer your text messages, or post on your social media channels? It depends on how much you trust that person to represent you publicly. Some celebrities have entire PR teams dedicated to just that, and they still have problems and accidental miscommunications. While it may seem luxurious to outsource all that work, the trouble is you lose control of your message.
The funnel has become a key part of the modern-day marketers toolkit. It’s the first report they peak at on Monday morning, and the last report they check before leaving for the weekend on a Friday. All serious analytics tools have some version of a funnel report, with differing degrees of flexibility and features. Some are narrower, allowing for a limited number of use cases, while others are more full-featured with advanced conditions, date ranges, and advanced segmentation.

Earlier this year, Michael Mandel from Progressive Policy published a piece about the growth of ecommerce sector jobs based on the latest data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. From 2007 to 2017, the ecommerce sector has created roughly 397,000 new jobs in the United States. A majority of these jobs are allocated to distribution and fulfillment, but a proportional number of these jobs also go into operations, management, and of course, customer service.
Much like the phases of the moon, your buyers go through a series of stages as they engage with your ecommerce brand. First, an anonymous user browses your site, then makes a purchase, then another, and slowly but surely becomes a loyal customer. This is the customer lifecycle, and understanding the ins and outs of this ever-changing process is the key to effective B2C marketing.
When I say “segmentation” with regards to marketing, what comes to mind for you? Chances are, you immediately think of email segmentation. Segmenting your emails is crucial to improving your customer engagement and conversion rate. But although emails are the most widely talked about segmentation type, there are countless others.
